From Proto-Tai *ɗaŋᴬ (“nose”). Cognate with Shan လင်/ၼင် (lǎng/nǎng) (as in ၶူႈလင်/ၶူႈၼင် (khūu lǎng/khūu nǎng)), Tai Nüa ᥘᥒ (lang),, Northern Thai ᨯᩢ᩠ᨦ, Lao ດັງ (dang), Lü ᦡᧂ (ḋang), Aiton ဒင် (daṅ) or ꩫင် (naṅ), Bouyei ndangl, Zhuang ndaeng. Compare also Proto-Austronesian *ujuŋ (“nose”).
