From 𐭀𐭎𐭅𐭓 (ʾswr /Asōr/, “Assyrian”) + -𐭎𐭕𐭍 (-stn /-estān/, “land of”). Compare Middle Persian 𐭠𐭮𐭥𐭥𐭮𐭲𐭭 (ʾsʿʿstn /Asōrestān/) and Old Armenian Ասորեստան (Asorestan).
