From Proto-Iranian *ráyxnah, from Proto-Indo-Iranian *ráyknas, from Proto-Indo-European *lóykʷ-no-s,[1] from *leykʷ- (“to leave”). Cognate with Sanskrit रेक्णस् (rékṇas), Old High German lēhan (“loan, tenure”).
