From Middle Persian [script needed] (tʾhtk' /taxtag/, “tablet, plank, (chess) board”), from [script needed] (tʾht' /taxt/, “throne”) and the suffix [script needed] (-k' /-ag/). Compare Old Armenian տախտակ (taxtak) and Arabic تَخْتَج (taḵtaj), Middle Iranian borrowings.
