From Proto-Germanic *suniz (β€œsoon”), probably related to Proto-West Germanic *sān(ō) (β€œimmediately”). Cognate with Old English sōna (English soon), Old Frisian sōn, Old Saxon sāno, Old High German sān, Old Norse senn (Icelandic senn).
