호열자
Korean
Etymology
Sino-Korean word from 虎列刺, an orthographic borrowing from Japanese 虎列剌 (korera), but misread 剌 (랄 (ral)) as 刺 (자 (ja)).
Pronunciation
- (SK Standard/Seoul) IPA(key): [ˈɸʷo̞(ː)jʌ̹ʎt͡ɕ͈a̠]
- Phonetic hangul: [호(ː)열짜]
- Though still prescribed in Standard Korean, most speakers in both Koreas no longer distinguish vowel length.
