First attested in the Hunmong jahoe (訓蒙字會 / 훈몽자회), 1527, as Middle Korean ᄒᆡᆺ모로 (Yale: hoysmwolwo). Equivalent to 해 (hae, “sun”) + ㅅ (-s-, genitive marker) + 무리 (muri, “halo, ring”). See the respective articles for more.
