From 벌 (beol, “bee”) + 새 (sae, “bird”). Compare 蜂鳥/蜂鸟 (fēngniǎo, literally “bee bird”), 蜂鳥 (hachidori, literally “bee bird”), chim ong (literally “bee bird”).
