Sino-Korean word from 動脈, from 動 (“moving”) + 脈 (“pulse”), from an orthographic borrowing from Japanese 動脈 (dōmyaku).

- Phonetic hangul: [동(ː)맥/동(ː)멕]
- Though still prescribed in Standard Korean, most speakers in both Koreas no longer distinguish vowel length.
