First attested in the Worin seokbo (月印釋譜 / 월인석보), 1459, as Middle Korean 구겨ᇰ〮ᄒᆞ다〮 (Yale: kwùkyéng-hòtá).

구경 (gugyeong) + 하다 (-hada, to do, light verb deriving active verbs).
