Inherited from Old Javanese wuruk (“calf; pupil, apprentice”), from Proto-Mon-Khmer *ɓɔɔʔ (“younger sibling”) (compare Khmer ប្អូន (pʼoun, “younger sibling”)) and *ruuh, *ruh (“young girl, virgin”).
