Inherited from Old Javanese *cĕṭa, cĕṭṭa (“well informed, expert in”), probably from Sanskrit छात्त्र (chāttra, “scholar; pupil”), छत्त्र (chattra, “teacher”, literally “shelter; parasol, umbrella”). Sound change probably were influenced by Pali chatta (“parasol”), Prakrit chatta (“parasol”).
