Etymology
From 魚 (gyo, “fish”) + 竜 (ryū, “dragon”), calque of New Latin ichthyosaurus, from Ancient Greek ἰχθῡ́ς (ikhthū́s, “fish”) + σαῦρος (saûros, “lizard”).
