Etymology
Compound of 一目 (hitome, “one glance, one look”) + 惚れ (hore, “falling for”, the 連用形 (ren'yōkei, “stem or continuative form”) of verb 惚れる horeru, “to fall in love with someone, to be smitten with someone”). The hore changes to bore as an instance of rendaku (連濁).[1][2]
