ニュース

Japanese

Etymology

Borrowed from English news.[1][2][3][4] The English word-final voiced sound /z/ is sometimes transcribed as if it was voiceless, as (su), rather than as (zu), especially if it represents English -s (plural suffix). Compare ゼット (zetto, zed). Also compare Korean (seu) which is used along with (jeu).
