ぼったくり
Japanese
Etymology
Compound of ぼり (bori, “overcharging, ripping off”, the 連用形 (ren'yōkei, “continuative or stem form”) of verb ぼる (boru, “to overcharge, to rip off”)) + たくり (takuri, “snatching, grabbing”, the 連用形 (ren'yōkei, “continuative or stem form”) of verb たくる (takuru, “to snatch, grab, take forcefully”)).[1][2][3] This latter element might be related to verb 手繰る (taguru, “to haul something in, to reel something in”).[4][5][6]
