Etymology
Created by Denis Moskowitz from the "five-fingered hand" symbol ⟨⟩ of the goddess Eris, a symbol found in modern Discordianism. Moskowitz rotated the hand symbol upright like the related Discordian POEE symbol ⟨⟩, and added a cross-bar, ⟨⟩, so that it would resemble a double lunate letter epsilon, the initial letter of 'Eris'. However, the Discordian community objected that this produced a "seven-fingered hand," and in response he removed the cross-bar.[1]
