Etymology
From ὦνος (ônos, “price”) + -έομαι (-éomai).
The suppletive aorist ἐπρῐάμην (epriámēn) is from Proto-Indo-European *kʷreyh₂- (“to buy”). Cognates include Welsh prynu, Old Irish crenaid, Sanskrit क्रीणाति (krīṇā́ti) (root क्री (krī)), Old East Slavic крити (kriti).
