ἔλδομαι

Ancient Greek

Alternative forms

  • ἐέλδομαι (eéldomai)

Etymology

From ἐέλδομαι (eéldomai) from *ἐϝέλδομαι (*ewéldomai). Possibly from Proto-Indo-European *welh₁-, and thus cognate with Sanskrit वृणोति (vṛṇoti) and English will. Beekes suggests instead a PIE root h₁ueld, which would have no descendants in languages other than Greek.
