ἑλλέβορος

Alternative forms

  • ἐλλέβορος (elléboros) Ionic

Etymology

Traditionally taken as "eaten by deer", from ἐλλός (ellós, deer) + βιβρώσκω (bibrṓskō, to eat). However, Beekes finds this seems very doubtful, preferring a Pre-Greek origin.
