Ἀρτάβανος
Ancient Greek
Etymology
From Old Persian *Arta-bānu or *Artabānuš (literally “The glory of Arta”),[1] from *ṛta- (“Arta”) + *bānu- (“beam, lustre, light”), from Proto-Indo-Iranian *Hr̥tás (“truth”) and *bʰaHnúš (“ray of light”), respectively. Compare Sanskrit ऋत (ṛta, “order, rule; truth; logos”) and भानु (bhānu, “ray of light; brightness, splendor”).
Cognate with Old Armenian Արտաւան (Artawan), Parthian 𐭏𐭓𐭕𐭁𐭍𐭅 (ʿrtbnw), Middle Persian [script needed] ('rtw'n).
