ἀντίπατρος
See also: Ἀντίπατρος
Ancient Greek
Etymology
ἀντῐ́ (antí, “against, opposite”) + πᾰτήρ (patḗr, “father”), potentially to denote the opposition of the initiate with the highest grade in the Cult of Mithras, the πᾰτήρ (patḗr, “father”). It may also derive from the alternative meaning of ἀντῐ́ (antí, “like, equivalent to”), hence meaning "like the father."
