Borrowed from Old Javanese baroṅ, barwaṅ (literally bear), from Proto-Malayo-Polynesian *baʀuaŋ (bear). Doublet of ᬩᬳᬸᬂ (baung, pig-shaped spirit) and ᬩ᭄ᬭᬸᬯᬂ (bruang, bear).
