From Proto-Tai *ɓilᴬ (to fly). Cognate with Thai บิน (bin), Lao ບິນ (bin), Northern Thai ᨷᩥ᩠ᨶ, Shan မိၼ် (mǐn) or ဝိၼ် (wǐn), Tai Dam ꪚꪲꪙ, Ahom 𑜉𑜢𑜃𑜫 (min), 𑜉𑜢𑜐𑜫 (miñ) or 𑜈𑜢𑜃𑜫 (bin), Zhuang mbin. Compare Proto-Be *vinᴬ¹.
