From Old Georgian ფქვილი (pkvili), from Proto-Georgian-Zan *pkw-il- (flour), from Proto-Kartvelian *pek(w)- : *pk(w)- (to grind). Equivalent of past participle of ფქვა (pkva), hence the -il- suffix.
