According to Abaev from Digor Ossetian сулу (sulu, whey) + -гун (-gun, made from). Akin to Mingrelian სილოგინი (silogini), სელეგინი (selegini), სელეგუნი (seleguni), სელეგჷნი (selegəni), Laz სუგუნიშყვალი (sugunişqvali), სილინგოყვალი (silingoqvali).
