Etymology

From late Middle Georgian ორაგული (oraguli). According to Shanidze, from არაგვი (aragvi) + -ული (-uli), since in Aragvi River salmons are common. Compare ხრამული (xramuli, fish species living in Khrami River) and გელაქნური (gelaknuri, fish species living in Lake Gelakuni (or Sevan)).
