Etymology

Originally, this circumfix along with სა- -ე (sa- -e) signified grammatical category. The latter denoted animate things, and the former - inanimate ones. Compare modern Georgian terms მე-ღორ-ე (me-ɣor-e, “swine-herd”) and სა-ღორ-ე (sa-ɣor-e, “pigsty”).
