ლაზონა

A new term proposed in 1980's from ლაზი (lazi, “Laz”) +‎ -ონა (-ona, “-field”).

ლაზონა • (lazona) (Latin spelling Lazona)

1. A historical and cultural region of the southwestern Caucasus and northeastern Anatolia along the Black Sea coastline, traditionally inhabited by the Laz people, also called Lazistan.

   Synonym: ლაზისთანი (lazistani)

   მა ლაზონაზ ნა-რენ მსქვა ჯოღრაჶჲაფე ოჭარუთე ირიზ ბოჩინაფამ

   ma lazonaz na-ren mskva coğrafyape oç̌arute iriz boçinapam

   I write and introduce the beautiful geography of Lazona to everyone.

• The suffix -ონა (-ona) is added to inanimate nouns to form toponyms. This term is therefore not unquestionably adopted by a large number of Laz people.
