Etymology

A Kulturwort of unknown ultimate origin. See Ancient Greek κάνναβις (kánnabis) for more. A close cognate (if not the immediate origin) is found in Old Armenian կանափ (kanapʻ).[1] Compare also Mingrelian კიფი (ḳipi), Laz კერფი (ǩerpi), and Svan ქან (kan).
