Etymology

From Proto-Georgian-Zan *ial- (pontic azalea), the expected forms with (a) rather than (e) are preserved in dialects. Čuxua further derives Svan ჰად-რა (had-ra, pontic azalea) from the same root, however this is rejected by Fähnrich. Cognate with Mingrelian იოლი (ioli).[4][5]

Compare also synonymous Armenian եղրի (eġri).
