Etymology
Related to არჯიოკა (arǯioḳa), ორჯოიკი (orǯoiḳi) and together with it borrowed from the foreign (likely Iranian) source of Old Armenian արջն (arǰn, “black”). Compare the plant name արջն-դեղ (arǰn-deł) derived from the latter. Less likely, borrowed from an unattested Armenian compound with արջ (arǰ, “bear”), which is found in many Armenian plant names.
