Either Sino-Tibetan or a Mainland Southeast Asian (MSEA) Wanderwort; compare Chinese 陽/阳 (yáng, “bright”), Korean 양 (yang, “light”), Lepcha ᰣᰜᰨᰰ (a-lóṅ, “reflective light”), Thai ปลั่ง (bplàng, “bright; shiny”) (Schuessler, 2007).
