Borrowing from Pali yojanā (“exegesis, interpretation”), from Sanskrit योजना (yojanā, “application of the sense of a passage, grammatical construction”), from योजन (yójana, “act of joining”), from the root युज् (yuj), युग् (yug, “to join”) (compare युनक्ति (yunákti, “to join”)), from Proto-Indo-European *yewg- (“to join”).
