Etymology

From Proto-Sino-Tibetan *na-(n/t) (sick; evil spirit). Cognate with Mizo , nat (ill, sick; illness), Tibetan (na, ill, sick), Nuosu (na, hurt, pain, sore; illness), Lisu ꓠꓻ (, sore, sick, ill), and Chinese (nán, bad, unpleasant). Doublet of နတ် (nat, nat spirit).
