Cognate with Thai กระทิง (grà-ting).
Ultimately from Austroasiatic; compare Khmer ខ្ទីង (khtiing), Thin Khmu [script needed] (k(ə̆)tiɲ), Mon တလိၚ် (kəloiŋ), Khasi [script needed] (kyrtong, “bull, ox”), etc. from Proto-Mon-Khmer *Kdiiŋ ~ *Kdu()ŋ (“wild ox”).[1]
