From Proto-Tai *pajᴮ (“not yet”). Cognate with Lao ໄປ່ (pai), Northern Thai ᨸᩱ᩵, Lü ᦺᦔᧈ (ṗay¹), Shan ပႆႇ (pài).

ไป่ • (bpài)

(poetic) used to express negation, denial, or refusal.

  ไป่มี ก็ให้มี ผิว มี ก็จง พึง ให้ยิ่งภิโยจึง จะ ประสบสุขาลัย

  If it does not yet exist, bring it into existence. If it has already come into being, increase it. Then happiness will be reached.
