Etymology 1
From Proto-Tai *saːkᴰ (“pestle”). Cognate with Northern Thai ᩈᩣ᩠ᨠ, Khün ᩈᩣ᩠ᨠ, Lao ສາກ (sāk), Tai Dam ꪎꪱꪀ, Lü ᦉᦱᧅ (ṡaak), Shan သၢၵ်ႇ (sàak), Phake ꩬက် (sak), Ahom 𑜏𑜀𑜫 (sak), Zuojiang Zhuang sak. Compare Proto-Hlai *tçʰaːk (“pestle”).
