Etymology
From Pali patidina (“daily”), composed of pati, paṭi (“towards; together; apart; etc.”) + dina (“day”); compare Sanskrit प्रतिदिन (pratidina, “day by day; daily; every day”). Cognate with Khmer បដិទិន (paʼdetɨn), ប្រតិទិន (prɑtetɨn), Lao ປະຕິທິນ (pa ti thin), Burmese ပြက္ခဒိန် (prakhka.din).
