From Old Mon ၜါရ် (ɓaar),[1] from Proto-Mon-Khmer *ɓaar. Cognate to Mon ၜါ, Khmer ពីរ (pii), Vietnamese hai, Muong hal, Bahnar 'bar, Pacoh bar, Khasi ar.[2]
