Cognate with Northern Thai ᨴ᩠ᩅᩤ᩠ᨿ, Khün ᨴ᩠ᩅᩣ᩠ᨿ, Lao ທວາຍ (thuāi) or ທາຍ (thāi), ᦑᦻ (taay), Tai Nüa ᥗᥣᥭᥳ (thȧay).

Compare Middle Khmer ទាយ (dāya, to predict, to foretell; to interpret) (whence Khmer ទាយ (tiəy)), extended as -ទំនាយ (°daṃnāya), from which Thai ทำนาย (tam-naai) is derived.
