Inherited from Middle Kannada ಪುರ್ಬು (purbu), from Old Kannada ಪುರ್ವು (purvu), from a Proto-South Dravidian borrowing from Sanskrit भ्रुवौ (bhruvau), dual of भ्रू (bhrū, “eyebrow”).[1] Cognate with Tamil புருவம் (puruvam), Malayalam പുരികം (purikaṁ).
