   ನನ್ನನ್ನು ನೋದಿದರೆ ಅವನು ಆನಂದಿಸುವನು ಮತ್ತು ಅವಳು ಆಶ್ಚರ್ಯ ಪಡುವಳು.

   nannannu nōdidare avanu ānandisuvanu mattu avaḷu āścarya paḍuvaḷu.

   If they see me, he will rejoice and she will feel surprise.

"ಮತ್ತು" can connect sentences and clauses and all words. However, when two verbs share a subject, a participial construction is more common. For example, the most idiomatic translation of "he sees me and rejoices" would be ನನ್ನನ್ನು ನೋಡಿ ಆನಂದಿಸುತ್ತಾನೆ. ― nannannu nōḍi ānandisuttāne. ― Having seen me, he rejoices
