కూర్చొను • (kūrconu)

1. to sit down, be seated
2. following the past participle of another verb, is used idiomatically as follows:
   1. it may serve to make the utterance definite and emphatic

      మీరు సహాయం చేస్తామని హామీ ఇచ్చారు. ప్రజలు దాన్ని నమ్మి కూర్చున్నారు. నెలలు గడిచినా ఏమీ జరగలేదు. ― mīru sahāyaṁ cēstāmani hāmī iccāru. prajalu dānni nammi kūrcunnāru. nelalu gaḍicinā ēmī jaragalēdu. ― You promised to help. The people believed it implicitly, but although months have passed nothing has happened.

   2. it may indicate the continuing nature of a state or action

      కాళహస్తి చేరాను. దిగడంతోనే ఎక్కడ బస చేయాలనేది సమస్యయి కూర్చున్నది. ― kāḷahasti cērānu. digaḍantōnē ekkaḍa basa cēyālanēdi samasyayi kūrcunnadi. ― I reached Kalahasti. From the time of my arrival, the problem of where to stay has remained unsolved.

   3. it may imply that an event described was regrettable from the speaker's point of view

      మా అబ్బాయి పరీక్ష తప్పి కూర్చున్నాడు. ― mā abbāyi parīkṣa tappi kūrcunnāḍu. ― Our son has gone and failed his examination.

• The usage of కూర్చొను (kūrconu) in the helper verb senses is similar to the usage of 仕舞(しま)う (shimau) in Japanese.
