అడవి

Telugu

అడవి.

Etymology

Possibly borrowed from Prakrit 𑀅𑀟𑀯𑀻 (aḍavī), from Sanskrit अटवि (aṭavi, forest). Robert Caldwell suggested that it might be a native Dravidian word based on its presence in the Cilappatikaram. Cognate with Tamil அடவி (aṭavi, forest), Kannada ಅಡವಿ (aḍavi, forest) and Malayalam അടവി (aṭavi, forest). Doublet of అటవి (aṭavi).
