Inherited from Proto-Dravidian *neyttVr (“blood”). Cognate with Telugu నెత్తురు (netturu), Kannada ನೆತ್ತರು (nettaru), Tulu ನೆತ್ತೆರ್ (netterŭ), Brahui دِتَر (ditar, “blood”), Kuvi ନେଡ୍ଡୁରି (netturi).
