Etymology
Uncertain. The Madras University Lexicon suggests a borrowing from Prakrit 𑀲𑀭𑀺𑀲 (sarisa), from Sanskrit सदृश (sadṛśa, “similar, like”),[1] cognate with Malayalam ശരി (śari), Kannada ಸರಿ (sari) and Telugu సరే (sarē).
