Inherited from Proto-South Dravidian *ēlV- (“cardamom”). Cognate with Malayalam ഏലം (ēlaṁ) and Telugu ఏల (ēla). Compare also Sanskrit एला (elā), a borrowing from Proto-Dravidian.
