Inherited from Proto-Dravidian *yĀṯu (“river”). Cognate with Kuvi ଏ୕ୟୁ (ēyu), Tamil ஆறு (āṟu), Malayalam ആറ് (āṟŭ), Telugu ఏరు (ēru).
