Etymology
From a feminine form of Sauraseni Prakrit *𑀳𑁄𑀟 (*hoḍa), from Sanskrit होड (hoḍa), from a Dravidian language (compare Kannada ಓಡ (ōḍa, “boat”) with voiced retroflex), from Proto-Dravidian *cōṭam (“boat”), from *cōṭ- (“to run”).[1][2] Compare Hindi होड़ी (hoṛī), Marathi होडी (hoḍī), Dhivehi އޮޑި (oḍi).
